I quit during college because it was too expensive, my mom wouldn't fund it like in high school, and really, no one cared what my hair looked like. These days, my routine is to go in for a nice cut and highlight touch up about once every three months. My hair dresser was always encouraging me to come in more often, but I stretched it out as long as I could. If I got my eyebrows waxed, it would run me about $150, which averages out to $50/month on hair care.
The hair cuts I still like. She was really good, and I'll pay for a good hair cut. But I'm considering quitting the highlights and sticking with my natural hair color for awhile. It's easier to deal with and healthier for my hair. Highlights look really nice, but I've looked through some pictures of me with my natural color, and I think I can deal with that. It just doesn't seem worth it to spend that much money on my hair right now.

I bought my hair cutter 3 years ago and since then I haven't spent a single cent on hair cut. However, I don't think self-cut can apply to girls. :)

Nice post! I spend too much on my hair. It costs me about $60 (including tip) to get it cut, then another $120 (includ tip) to get it colored... and that's WITHOUT highlights. Eyebrow wax is about $25 a month. What I do to save money is only get my hair cut/colored 2-3 times per year. I know I'm supposed to get it done every 6 weeks but that costs way too much. Usually I'll go in when my dead ends are obviously in trouble. I'm avoiding highlights now to save money, and have gone with a color that will look ok with my natural roots.
